Te mapa
Placas is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Pará, along the Trans-Amazonian Highway, the BR-230, in the interior of the Amazon basin. Like many towns founded along the highway, it began as a settlement on the road itself, and the map still shows that origin: a compact grid of blocks gathered along the highway, surrounded by vast open land.
From the main road, long, straight side roads extend at right angles into the countryside, a pattern associated with planned colonisation settlements along the highway. Farm plots line these roads, and on a larger map they create a distinctive herringbone or ladder effect. In black and white, this geometry reads almost like a diagram.
Agriculture shapes the area's economy, and the land around Placas is a mix of farms and forest. Since published detail on the town is limited, we keep to what the map shows. A Placas map poster presents a highway town and the long, straight lines of settlement around it.
The BR-230 runs straight through the town, the backbone on which the street grid and the surrounding settlement pattern both depend.
A small, regular block pattern sits along the highway, a dense cluster of streets surrounded by open land on every side.
Long straight roads branch off the highway at right angles, giving wider views a striking, repetitive geometry that is typical of the region.

For families who settled along the Transamazônica, and for anyone from Placas living elsewhere in Brazil, this map records a town built from a road outward. Its strong geometry suits modern interiors.
