Te mapa
Port Arthur sits in southeast Texas, on the western shore of Sabine Lake near the Louisiana border. On the map, water defines the city. The Sabine–Neches Waterway and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway run along its edge, and Pleasure Island stretches out as a long strip of land in the lake. Inland, streets form a grid of residential blocks next to large industrial areas.
The city grew around oil. After the Spindletop discovery in 1901, refineries were built here, and Port Arthur remains one of the major refining centres in the United States. It is also known as the hometown of singer Janis Joplin, and the Museum of the Gulf Coast covers the area's music and history. Hurricanes and flooding have long shaped life here.
A Port Arthur map poster combines hard, engineered lines with open water. Shipping channels, levees and industrial sites create strong shapes, while the grid of streets fills the land between them. Sabine Lake takes up a large part of the design, making the city feel like a thin edge between land and water.
The wide lake lies east of the city and forms its outer edge. On the poster, it is a large open area that balances the built-up grid.
Deep-water channels and the Intracoastal Waterway run past the city. Their long, straight lines show how important shipping is to the area.
This long, narrow island lies in Sabine Lake, just off the city. Its thin shape is one of the most distinctive features on the map.
