Te mapa
Pushchino is a science town in the far south of Moscow Oblast, founded in the 1950s as a centre for biological research of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. It still holds research institutes, and it is also home to a well-known radio astronomy observatory whose large antenna fields show clearly from above.
The map shows a clear plan. Residential microdistricts are set out in broad blocks with wide spaces between the buildings. The institutes form a separate campus, and the town ends sharply at the high bank of the Oka River. Across the water lie floodplain meadows and the forests of the Prioksko-Terrasny nature reserve.
A Pushchino map poster captures that planned order: generous blocks, a ring of main roads, and the long curve of the Oka along one side. Researchers, students and families who have lived in this unusual town often recognise it immediately.
The town stops at a steep bank above the Oka River, and the wide curve of the water and its floodplain forms the natural southern edge of the poster.
Housing was planned in large, self-contained blocks with open ground between them. On a minimalist map this produces an unusually spacious and orderly pattern of streets.
The radio astronomy observatory's antenna arrays stand out as precise geometric shapes on the edge of town, a direct trace of Pushchino's scientific purpose.

Koteā ko Pushchino
Pushchino is a town people often come to for their work, and many stay. For scientists and their families, the map records a particular way of life, lived between the laboratories, the river and the forest.
