River as spine
The town grows along its river, with streets running parallel to the banks and bridges tying the two sides together, which gives the map a clear flowing axis.

Te mapa
Qishan is the seat of Qimen County in the far south of Anhui, close to the Jiangxi border. The town lies in a narrow valley among the wooded hills that stretch south and west from the Huangshan range. From above, it is long and narrow, following the river and the flat strips of land beside it.
Hills close in on both sides, so the streets run in long lines parallel to the water, crossed by short connecting lanes and bridges. The river is the backbone of the plan. Beyond the built edge, roads climb into side valleys where villages and terraced plots follow the contour lines.
The county is known around the world for Keemun black tea, named after Qimen, and tea gardens cover many of the surrounding slopes. A Qishan map poster shows a town the landscape has held in place: dense along the river, bounded by hills, with the valley roads branching off into tea country.
The town grows along its river, with streets running parallel to the banks and bridges tying the two sides together, which gives the map a clear flowing axis.
Hills limit how far the town can spread, so the street pattern stays linear and compact and quickly fades into open slopes.
Narrow roads wind out of town into the side valleys of Qimen County, the home of Keemun black tea, and follow the folds of the terrain.
