Qorof is a town in the Somali Region of eastern Ethiopia, in the dry lowlands that stretch toward the border with Somalia. Life in this region has long revolved around livestock herding, water sources and the routes connecting towns across very large distances. The settlement is small, and on a map it appears as a modest group of streets in open land.
Because so little is built up around it, the town's layout is easy to read. A handful of main streets meet near the centre, with smaller lanes and compounds around them. Tracks leave the town and run far across the semi-arid plain, often in long straight or gently curving lines.
