Te mapa
Ranam lies on the northeast coast of Korea in North Hamgyong province, and today it is a district of the city of Chongjin. The setting is simple and strong. The sea is on one side, steep hills are on the other, and a strip of level ground in between holds the streets. During the colonial period, the Japanese army based a division headquarters here.
On the map, the coastline gives Ranam its main edge. Roads and a railway follow the shore and connect the district to central Chongjin. Streets are laid out in mostly regular blocks where the plain is wide enough. Inland, the terrain rises quickly, and the built-up area thins out into valleys that lead toward the mountains.
A Ranam map poster works best as a study of geography. It shows the long seaward line, the narrow coastal plain and the transport corridor along it. Detailed public mapping of the area is limited, so the poster keeps to what the base map shows: the coast, the main routes and the shape of the blocks against the hills.
The shore of the East Sea forms the district's long outer edge. On the poster it is a clean line with the city's blocks running close to it.
Roads and the railway follow the narrow level ground along the coast and connect Ranam with the rest of Chongjin. Together they form the main axis of the map.
Just inland the ground rises steeply. Streets give way to valleys and slopes, so the built area is a band held between the mountains and the sea.

Koteā ko Ranam
Ranam appeals to people interested in places that are rarely seen. It also speaks to those with family history in northeast Korea. Its outline, a thin band of streets pressed between hills and sea, is plain and striking.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line. You can also choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Each one gives the coast and the hills a different mood.
