Te mapa
Reykjanesbær stretches along the northern shore of the Reykjanes Peninsula in south-west Iceland. From above, it is a band of low-rise neighbourhoods following the curve of the bay, backed by open lava fields with almost no roads at all. The coastline is the defining line of the map, sharp and irregular, with small harbours cut into it.
The municipality was formed in 1994 when the towns of Keflavík, Njarðvík and Hafnir merged. That history is still visible from above: separate street grids that have grown towards each other along the shore. Just inland lies Keflavík International Airport, whose runways and former base area occupy a large, geometric plateau on the edge of the frame.
A Reykjanesbær map poster captures a town shaped by sea, rock and aviation. The dense residential streets sit against a coast on one side and bare lava on the other, so the composition is strongly asymmetric. For many travellers this is the first place they see in Iceland, even if they only pass through.
The street patterns of Keflavík and Njarðvík meet along the shore, two formerly separate towns now joined into a single continuous band of neighbourhoods.
A jagged shoreline with small harbours and breakwaters runs the length of the town, the strongest and most characterful line on the map.
Keflavík International Airport lies just inland, its long straight runways standing out clearly against the empty lava fields around them.

For Icelanders from Suðurnes, people who served or worked near the airport, or travellers whose trip began here, this map marks a real point of arrival. The clean coast and open lava make an especially striking black-and-white composition.
