Te mapa
Riachão is a municipality in the south of Maranhão, in the cerrado belt that stretches across central Brazil. The town is small and inland, surrounded by open savanna, gallery forest along watercourses and large areas of farmland and pasture.
From above, the urban area is a tidy block pattern, typical of many towns in the Brazilian interior. Streets meet mostly at right angles, and there is a main square and a church at the centre. The grid ends abruptly at its edges, where dirt roads continue into the countryside and follow streams and property lines.
A Riachão map poster shows a town that is clear in its structure and modest in scale. The regular blocks read well in black and white, and the few roads leaving town give the composition direction. It is a quiet portrait of a place defined by the land around it.
Straight streets and near-square blocks form a clear, orderly core, the kind of layout that has shaped many towns in inland Maranhão.
Small watercourses near the town are lined with denser vegetation. They create soft, winding lines that contrast with the straight urban streets.
A few main routes leave the grid and head into open country, linking Riachão with farms and neighbouring municipalities across the savanna.
