Te mapa
Romblon is the capital town of Romblon province, on Romblon Island in the Sibuyan Sea. From above, the town curves around a sheltered bay, with its streets squeezed between the shoreline and steep, wooded hills. The harbour sits at the centre, and roads follow the coast out of town around the island.
The island is known as the marble capital of the Philippines, and marble carving remains an important local craft. Two Spanish-era stone forts, Fort San Andres and Fort Santiago, stand on hills above the town and look out over the bay, part of the defensive works built during the colonial period.
A Romblon map poster shows the close relationship between water, town and hill. The bay forms a clear curve, the streets fill the narrow strip of flat land, and the hills rise behind, making a compact coastal composition with a strong sense of shelter.
The harbour bay curves inward, protected by the land around it. On the map it forms a clear, rounded shape that defines the town's layout.
Streets fill the narrow flat ground between the shore and the hills. The result is a compact, curved town plan that follows the line of the bay.
The Spanish-era forts sit on the hills above the town. They mark the high ground overlooking the harbour and the approach from the sea.
