Mayon's lower slopes
Towards the volcano, the streets give way to open ground and a few roads climbing the lower slopes, leaving a wide quiet area that hints at the mountain beyond.

Te mapa
Legaspi, officially spelled Legazpi, is the capital of Albay province and the main city of the Bicol Region in the Philippines. On a map it lies along the shore of Albay Gulf. Its streets form a compact centre near the port, then spread inland across a coastal plain that rises gently towards the volcano.
Mayon Volcano, famous for its almost symmetrical cone, dominates the horizon beyond the city, and the street network thins out as the ground climbs towards its slopes. Nearer the water, a seaside boulevard and the port area give the city a clear coastal edge, and small hills such as Ligñon Hill rise among the neighbourhoods.
The city has long been the gateway to Bicol, with road and rail links to the rest of Luzon, and it serves as the base for most visits to the volcano. A Legaspi map poster captures the balance of sea, city and mountain that defines the place, with the gulf on one side and the rising ground of Mayon on the other.
Towards the volcano, the streets give way to open ground and a few roads climbing the lower slopes, leaving a wide quiet area that hints at the mountain beyond.
The coastline, port and seaside boulevard draw a strong edge along the eastern side of the city, where the streets meet open water.
A small hill within the city forms a rounded green patch among the streets. It is a local viewpoint over the town and towards the volcano.

People from Bicol, and visitors who have seen Mayon at dawn, often want a way to keep that view close. A map of Legaspi holds the city, the gulf and the approach to the volcano in one calm, graphic image.
