Te mapa
Tacloban sits on the northeastern corner of Leyte, where the island almost touches Samar across the narrow San Juanico Strait. From above, the city spreads around the shallow Cancabato Bay. The downtown is compact and gridded on the western shore, and a long, thin peninsula holding the airport curls around the bay's eastern side.
The older centre is laid out in short, regular blocks near the port. Newer neighbourhoods run north along the coast and inland toward low hills. Mangroves, fishponds and tidal channels soften the shoreline in many places. To the north, the San Juanico Bridge spans the strait in a long curve, linking Leyte and Samar.
Tacloban is the regional centre of Eastern Visayas. It was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, in 2013, and has since been extensively rebuilt. A Tacloban map poster shows the geography that shaped both its growth and its exposure to the sea: the bay, the strait and the low coastal land.

A shallow bay enclosed by the downtown on one side and the airport peninsula on the other. It makes a clear, rounded body of water at the city's heart.
A narrow strip of land curving out into the sea east of the bay, carrying the runway in a straight line along its length.

Koteā ko Tacloban
For Waray families, returning residents and everyone who helped rebuild after Yolanda, Tacloban carries real weight. A map of its bay and bridge is a quiet, dignified way to remember home and the people connected to it.
