Te mapa
Catbalogan is the capital of Samar province, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. It occupies a narrow coastal strip on the western side of Samar island, and the map makes its limits clear. Steep, wooded hills press the town against the sea, so its streets are packed tightly into the flat land along the shore.
The historic centre gathers around the port, the cathedral and the provincial government buildings, with a dense grid of short streets between the waterfront and the rising ground. Newer districts spread along the coastal road to the north and south. A Catbalogan map poster shows this long, slender town holding on to its shoreline.
Small islands lie offshore in the Samar Sea and add scattered forms to the map. The coastline itself is irregular, marked by coves and small headlands. In black and white, the built-up waterfront, the blank hillsides and the fragmented islands give Catbalogan a distinctive, almost sculptural outline.
The harbour is the heart of the town, with piers extending into the sea and the densest streets packed immediately behind them.
Steep hills rise directly behind the centre and limit its growth, leaving a sharp edge between built-up blocks and empty land on the map.
Small islands lie off the coast as scattered outlines, giving the seaward side of the map interest and balance.

For Samareños at home and abroad, a map of Catbalogan recalls the harbour, the hills and the provincial capital that anchors the island's west coast. Its compact shape works well in smaller frames.
