Ryōtsu-minato is the main ferry port of Sado Island, off the coast of Niigata in the Sea of Japan. Its layout is set by an unusual piece of geography: the town lies along a thin strip of land between Ryōtsu Bay to the east and Lake Kamo, a large brackish lake, to the west. From above, the built-up area looks like a narrow band held between two bodies of water.
The streets run mostly lengthwise along this strip, with short cross lanes linking the harbour side to the lakeshore. A short channel connects the lake to the sea, and the ferry terminal and harbour walls stand out along the bay. Beyond the town, fields and low hills lead toward the mountains that frame Sado's central plain.
A Ryōtsu-minato map poster turns this setting into a clean, balanced composition, with water filling both sides of the frame and a slim ribbon of streets between them. Sado is known for its historic gold mine, now a World Heritage site, and for the Kodo taiko ensemble based on the island. For most visitors, Ryōtsu is where the island begins.
The town occupies a narrow isthmus with Lake Kamo on the inland side and Ryōtsu Bay facing the sea, giving the map two large open areas of water.
A short waterway links the lake to the bay through the middle of town, a small line on the map that explains how the whole setting works.
Breakwaters and quays along the bay mark the arrival point for boats from Niigata, the most recognisable man-made shape on the waterfront.

Koteā ko Ryōtsu-minato
This is a print for anyone who has taken the ferry across to Sado, or whose family comes from the island. The strip of town between two waters is simple and striking, and it reads well at any size.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps the date of a trip or a family name, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
