Te mapa
Sakaiminato sits at the very end of the Yumigahama Peninsula, a long, narrow spit of sand in western Tottori. On the map, the city fills the tip of that strip: open sea along one side, the calm waters of Nakaumi lagoon on the other, and a narrow channel at the point separating it from the Shimane Peninsula across the water.
It is one of Japan's major fishing ports, known especially for crab and tuna landings. It is also the hometown of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, and a street in the centre is lined with bronze statues of the yokai from his work, drawing visitors from all over the country.
A Sakaiminato map poster shows this unusual position with great clarity. The harbour basins and quays form sharp geometric shapes at the tip, the residential streets extend along the spit, and the water around three sides gives the print an open, maritime character that few cities can match.
The city occupies the end of a long sand spit. On the poster, the narrow land between sea and lagoon gives the map its distinctive tapering shape.
Quays, piers and basins at the port form a dense cluster of straight lines at the tip of the peninsula, the working heart of the city.
A narrow channel separates Sakaiminato from the Shimane Peninsula. A bridge spans it, drawing a clear line across the water on the map.

Koteā ko Sakaiminato
Sakaiminato is a place remembered for the harbour, the sea air and the yokai statues along the main street. Its map makes a fine keepsake for locals, fans of Mizuki's work and anyone who has travelled along the Sea of Japan coast.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, including in Japanese, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the harbour's straight quays and surrounding water very well.
