Te mapa
Sandwīp is an island off the Chittagong coast of Bangladesh, where the Meghna estuary opens into the Bay of Bengal. The Sandwip Channel separates it from the mainland. From above, the island is long and narrow, with soft, irregular shores. Its interior is covered in small fields, ponds and village roads rather than a dense urban grid.
It is one of the oldest inhabited islands in the delta, mentioned by travellers centuries ago. It is also one of the most changeable. Erosion and new silt keep reshaping its outline, so its coastline has moved considerably over time. Any map is a snapshot of a form that is still changing.
A Sandwīp map poster works best at a wider extent, where the whole island and the surrounding water are visible. The coastline itself is the subject. It is a pale shape held in open water, its edges softened by tides, with a fine web of rural paths inside.
The island's edges are soft and irregular, shaped by river silt and tides. They form a strong outline against the open water around it.
A wide channel separates the island from the Chittagong mainland. On the map, it appears as a broad band of empty space along one side.
Inside the island, narrow roads link villages, ponds and fields. The result is a delicate, scattered pattern rather than a dense grid.
