Te mapa
Sanjiao is a town in Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. From above, the landscape is anything but flat: ridges and valleys fold across the map, and the town's streets follow the terrain rather than a grid. Roads bend around hillsides, and buildings cluster where the ground allows.
This part of Chongqing is largely rural, with small towns serving surrounding villages and farmland. Terraced fields, ponds and scattered farmhouses fill the land between settlements, and roads link the town with larger centres in the region. The shape of the town has grown out of its topography, as in many places across the basin.
A Sanjiao map poster captures a settlement that fits itself to the land. Curving roads, irregular blocks and a scattering of water bodies make an organic composition. In a minimalist print, the absence of a rigid grid is part of the appeal, and the lines feel close to the contours of the hills.
Roads and lanes curve to follow the hills, giving the town an irregular, flowing plan instead of straight blocks.
Around the town, fields and small ponds fill the valleys, appearing on the map as scattered shapes between winding rural roads.
Roads leave town along valleys towards neighbouring settlements, bending with the land and tying the town into the wider district.
