Te mapa
Sau Mau Ping sits on the hills above Kwun Tong in eastern Kowloon, and the terrain shapes almost everything on its map. There is no grid here. The roads switchback up the slopes and curve around the hillsides to reach clusters of residential towers built on terraced platforms. From above, the district looks like a series of stepped shelves cut into the hill, with open green slopes behind.
The area grew as a public housing district from the 1960s onward, and large estates still make up most of its footprint. Its steep ground also has a place in Hong Kong's history. Deadly landslides here and elsewhere in the city in the 1970s led to a dedicated slope-safety authority. The engineered slopes and retaining platforms that followed are still part of the landscape a map shows.
A Sau Mau Ping map poster shows this hillside geometry in clean black and white. The curves of the access roads, the compact footprints of the housing blocks and the empty spaces of the undeveloped slopes produce a looser, more organic pattern than the dense grid of the harbourfront below. The print carries the feel of a neighbourhood built into the mountain rather than laid over flat land.
The streets bend and double back as they climb the hillside. On the map they trace the shape of the land and form looping lines instead of straight blocks.
Public housing estates sit on cut platforms at different heights. They appear as tight groups of building footprints with open ground and slopes between them.
Above the built-up area, the eastern Kowloon hills stay largely undeveloped. That leaves a calm, open margin that frames the dense estates on the poster.

Koteā ko Sau Mau Ping
Many Hong Kong families have lived in Sau Mau Ping's estates for generations, and for them this map is a record of home: the road up the hill, the block where they grew up, the view down towards Kwun Tong. It works well as a gift for anyone who has moved away.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised with an estate name, a family date or a short dedication. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, to suit the space where it will hang.
