Te mapa
From above, Sheung Shui reads as a compact cluster of tall residential blocks gathered around the railway, with older village lanes still visible between them. The street pattern tightens near the station and loosens toward the fields and fish ponds that once surrounded the town. Engineered river channels curve through the plan in clean, deliberate lines.
The East Rail line runs through the town and continues north toward the Lo Wu crossing into Shenzhen, so the map sits just short of a boundary. Sheung Shui is also the home of the Liu clan, whose walled village and ancestral hall record centuries of settlement in the New Territories, well before the tower blocks arrived.
A Sheung Shui map poster shows these layers together: the geometry of new estates, the irregular footprint of the old villages, and the broad river corridors between them. In black and white, the contrast between planned and organic streets becomes the main subject, and the town's position at the edge of Hong Kong is easy to read.
Straightened and widened river courses cut across the northern plain, forming smooth bands on the map that separate the town from the lowlands leading toward the Shenzhen River.
The East Rail line gives the town its axis. Streets and estates arrange themselves around the station, and the track continues north toward the border crossing at Lo Wu.
The Liu clan's historic village keeps a tighter, older grain of lanes and courtyards, a small patch of irregular pattern amid the larger residential blocks nearby.

Koteā ko Sheung Shui
Sheung Shui is where many people first or last see Hong Kong on the rail journey north, and a map holds that sense of threshold. It suits anyone who grew up in the estates, commuted across the border, or has family ties to the villages.
