Shingū lies at the mouth of the Kumano River on the south-eastern coast of the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama Prefecture. The river forms the city's edge and the prefectural boundary with Mie, while forested hills press closely against the streets on the landward side. On a map, the town fills the narrow flat ground between river, sea and slopes, with a dense pattern of streets and a curving coastline.
Shingū is one of the gateways to the Kumano Kodō pilgrimage routes and home to Kumano Hayatama Taisha, one of the three grand shrines of Kumano. Nearby, Kamikura Shrine sits on a steep hillside, reached by a long flight of rough stone steps, beside a huge boulder called Gotobiki-iwa. The city is also known as the birthplace of the writer Kenji Nakagami.
A Shingū map poster captures the city's tight setting: the broad sweep of the Kumano River, the compact streets on the flat ground and the wooded hills that frame them. The shrine grounds and the ruins of the old castle on its hill appear as distinct shapes within the street pattern, giving the composition both structure and a sense of depth.
The wide river curves along the city's edge before reaching the Pacific, drawing a bold line that separates Wakayama from Mie on the map.
The precincts of Kumano Hayatama Taisha and the hillside site of Kamikura Shrine stand out as calm spaces among the surrounding streets.
The ruins of Shingū Castle occupy a small hill above the river, a compact wooded outline set against the regular pattern of the town.

Koteā ko Shingū
Pilgrims who have walked the Kumano Kodō often begin or end their journey here, and a map of Shingū is a quiet reminder of that experience. It also makes a fitting gift for anyone with family or memories on the Kii Peninsula.
Add your own title, a subtitle with the dates of your walk, and keep the coordinates line as a detail. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and receive print-ready files in six sizes or a matte printed poster.
