Te mapa
Simen lies in the upland country of southeastern Gansu, a landscape shaped by loess, the fine wind-blown soil that covers much of this part of China. On a map, the terrain shows itself through the roads rather than through contour lines: streets gather where the ground levels out, and routes out of town bend to follow gullies and stream beds instead of running straight.
The town itself is small and fairly compact, with its denser streets forming a core from which lanes spread towards surrounding villages. Beyond that, the map thins into scattered hamlets and winding tracks across the hills. This mix of a tight centre and a branching, organic network is typical of settlements in the Wei River basin region, where valleys have long set the pattern for where people live.
A Simen map poster captures that relationship between settlement and landform. In a monochrome rendering, the fine branching of rural roads looks almost like the veins of a leaf, with the town at its stem. It is an understated, personal image, best suited to someone with a real connection to the place.
Roads in and around Simen trace the lines of valleys and gullies, so their curves reveal the shape of the hills even without any terrain shading.
The built-up centre is small and dense compared with the open countryside, giving the poster a clear focal point in the middle of the frame.
Scattered villages and branching farm tracks fill the surrounding uplands, creating a delicate, irregular texture that fills the outer edges of the map.

Koteā ko Simen
For families with roots in this part of Gansu, a map of Simen is a way to keep a hometown close, drawn simply and without decoration. It sits well in a study or living room, next to photographs and family keepsakes.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be changed, so you might add the town's name in Chinese characters or a family date. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black and white to warm Sand, and print at home from the 300 DPI files or order a finished poster.
