Te mapa
So Uk sits in Sham Shui Po District, at the northern edge of Kowloon, where the dense lowland streets meet the slopes of the hills behind. It is known above all for So Uk Estate, one of Hong Kong's early public housing estates. The estate was later rebuilt, and its new towers occupy the same hillside site.
On the map, the difference between old and new Kowloon is clear. Below So Uk, the grid of Sham Shui Po and Cheung Sha Wan is tight and rectilinear, packed with tenement blocks and market streets. Up the slope, the estates follow the contours, with curving access roads, podiums and open spaces arranged around the tower blocks.
A So Uk map poster captures that meeting of city and hillside. Dense urban grid, curving estate roads and the green of the hills above combine into a composition with real depth, and it will mean a great deal to anyone who grew up in these estates.

The tight rectilinear streets of Sham Shui Po and Cheung Sha Wan sit just below and form a dense texture at the foot of the map.
The slopes of north Kowloon rise behind the estates, and green space leaves a calm, open area at the top of the print.
