Suixi lies on the North China Plain in northern Anhui, close to the city of Huaibei. The land here is almost level, and that shows immediately on the map. Main roads run in long straight lines, crossing at right angles and dividing the town into large, regular blocks. The overall impression is of a place planned for movement and growth rather than one shaped by terrain.
Around the built-up area, the pattern changes to fields, villages and drainage channels, which appear as thin lines and scattered clusters. Where the plain is this flat, water is managed carefully, and canals and ponds become part of the drawing.
