Te mapa
Tai Koo lies on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island, between Quarry Bay and Sai Wan Ho. Its name recalls the Taikoo Dockyard and sugar refinery run by the Swire group, whose industrial sites once occupied this stretch of shoreline. From the 1970s the dockyard land was redeveloped into Taikoo Shing, one of the largest private housing estates in Hong Kong.
On a map that history shows as order. The estate is arranged as clusters of towers around podiums, internal roads and open spaces, a sharp contrast to the older, irregular streets elsewhere on the island. King's Road runs along the inland edge, the Island Eastern Corridor follows the waterfront, and the hills rise steeply behind the flat reclaimed ground.
A Tai Koo map poster works especially well for people who have lived in the estate or near it, since the shapes of the blocks are so recognisable from above. Cityplaza, the shopping centre beside the MTR station, anchors the district, and the harbour edge gives the print a clean, strong line along one side of the frame.
Dozens of residential towers sit in tidy groups on podiums, forming one of the most distinctive planned footprints on Hong Kong Island and the densest part of the print.
The Island Eastern Corridor traces the shoreline along Victoria Harbour, a firm line that separates the estate from open water and gives the composition its outer boundary.
Behind the flat land the terrain climbs quickly into wooded slopes, where the dense street pattern thins out into a few winding roads and footpaths.

Hong Kong homes are compact, and a single map of the estate where you grew up or raised a family can say a great deal on one wall. It also makes a thoughtful farewell gift for friends leaving the city.
Add a title such as your block name, a subtitle or a date, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download the files for $9 or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
