Te mapa
Tai Wai lies at the southern end of the Sha Tin valley in Hong Kong's New Territories. The name means big walled village, after the old walled village that still stands among newer estates. On a map the area sits in a narrow basin. Steep green hills rise to the south and west toward Lion Rock, and the town fills the flat ground between them.
The Shing Mun River channel runs through the district as a wide, straight waterway lined with cycling tracks and promenades, one of the clearest lines on the map. Tai Wai station is an important interchange where the East Rail and Tuen Ma lines meet, and rail tracks and viaducts cut across the town. Tall residential estates appear as tight clusters of blocks.
Tai Wai is also home to Che Kung Temple, one of the most visited temples in Hong Kong, particularly around Lunar New Year. A Tai Wai map poster shows how much is packed into a small valley: village lanes, housing estates, rail lines and river, all bounded by hillsides that stay almost empty on the map.
The channelled river cuts a broad, straight path through the district toward Sha Tin, with riverside paths and bridges crossing it at regular intervals.
Tai Wai station connects the East Rail and Tuen Ma lines, and their tracks and viaducts form strong lines that divide the dense urban area.
Steep, largely undeveloped hillsides surround the town to the south and west, giving the map a sharp contrast between packed streets and open slopes.

Koteā ko Tai Wai
Tai Wai is home to many Hong Kong families, and its mix of old village and modern estate makes it very recognisable. A map of the district makes a considered gift for someone who grew up there, has moved away, or is setting up a first flat.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, with Chinese characters or a special date for example, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits the dense towers and the dark hills around them.
