Te mapa
Takinomiya is in the town of Ayagawa in Kagawa Prefecture, on the Sanuki plain of northern Shikoku. On the map it is a small, compact settlement with narrow streets and a railway line, surrounded by rice fields. Kagawa is known for its many irrigation ponds, and they appear here as smooth, irregular shapes scattered across the farmland.
The area is associated with Takinomiya Tenmangu Shrine and the Takinomiya Nembutsu Odori, a traditional dance that is part of the furyu-odori group listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. The Kotoden Kotohira Line runs through the area, and its track appears as a thin, steady line connecting the town with Takamatsu and Kotohira.
A Takinomiya map poster offers a view of rural Japan at a quiet scale: small streets, ponds, fields and the edges of low hills. The balanced mix of water and land makes a calm composition, and it suits the Paper and Sand styles especially well.
Numerous ponds, typical of the Sanuki plain and of Kagawa in general, are scattered among the fields as rounded water shapes.
The Kotoden Kotohira Line passes through the area, drawn as a thin line that links the town with Takamatsu to the north.
Takinomiya Tenmangu Shrine and the small town around it form a compact core of streets set among open rice fields.
