Te mapa
Talnakh lies well above the Arctic Circle in northern Krasnoyarsk Krai. It is part of the Norilsk urban area and sits a short distance northeast of Norilsk itself. The town was built in the 1960s after the discovery of rich nickel and copper deposits nearby, and its plan shows that clearly: a compact, deliberate arrangement of housing blocks with very little informal growth.
Because of the climate, the town is laid out tightly. Residential buildings stand close together in rows and courtyards, often on piles above the permafrost, with a few main streets connecting them. Beyond that, the map changes abruptly to tundra, mine sites and the roads and industrial lines that connect Talnakh with the wider Norilsk complex.
That sharp contrast gives the poster its character. A Talnakh map poster shows a small dense cluster of geometry, surrounded by open northern land and a few long lines leading out toward the mines and the rest of the city. It is one of the most remote urban plans you could put on a wall.
Housing blocks sit close together in a tight arrangement meant to shelter residents from the Arctic wind. The town forms a small, dense shape against a very large empty background.
Beyond the last buildings the map turns almost blank. Open land, lakes and streams stretch outward, showing how isolated the town is.
Roads and industrial corridors connect Talnakh with Norilsk and the mining sites. They appear as long straight lines across the tundra, tying the settlement to its purpose.

Koteā ko Talnakh
Many people who lived or worked in the Norilsk region keep a strong attachment to it after they leave. A map of Talnakh is a precise, understated reminder of a place very few others will ever see.
Give the poster your own title and subtitle, perhaps the years you lived there, and edit the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black and white to Blueprint. The $9 download includes six print sizes, and printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries.
