Te mapa
Tanauan is a municipality in the province of Leyte in the Eastern Visayas, on the island's eastern coast, south of Palo and the regional centre of Tacloban. The map follows the shoreline. The town centre sits close to the water, and the main highway runs roughly parallel to the coast. Settlements string out along it to the north and south.
Inland, the land is flat and low, divided into rice paddies, coconut groves and small barangays linked by narrow roads and paths. Rivers and creeks meander toward the sea and add soft, winding lines to the map. In the resulting pattern, the compact centre gives way gradually to open agricultural land.
Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, struck in November 2013, and Tanauan was among the towns hit hardest. Much of it has since been rebuilt. A Tanauan map poster records the town as it stands today, a coastal community shaped by the sea on one side and the fields of Leyte on the other.
The town faces the waters of Leyte Gulf. Its long coastline forms the eastern edge of the map, drawn as a smooth line against the sea.
The main road runs along the coast, linking Tanauan with Palo and Tacloban to the north. It forms the spine of the map, with settlements strung along its length.
West of the centre, flat farmland of rice paddies and coconut groves spreads inland. Creeks and small roads connecting the barangays cross it.
