Te mapa
Tantou sits in Songgang, in Shenzhen's Bao'an district, close to the northwestern edge of the city near Dongguan. From above, it is one of the densely built manufacturing communities that grew quickly as the Pearl River Delta industrialised. Blocks of factories and worker housing are packed tightly between wider arterial roads, and a few low green hills stay undeveloped among them.
Most of this street pattern is recent, which gives a Tantou map poster an unusual look. Instead of an old core with lanes spreading outwards, you get a patchwork of rectangular plots. Each one follows the logic of the estate it belongs to, so the grid changes direction from one block to the next as developers and planning phases shifted.
Water shapes the wider area. The Maozhou River runs across the flat land nearby on its way to the Pearl River estuary, and smaller channels and reservoirs fill gaps between the built-up zones. Expressways and rail corridors linking Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou pass close by, cutting long straight lines through the fine-grained blocks.
Large rectangular plots for workshops and dormitories fill much of the frame. The result is a dense, regular texture that feels very different from a historic city centre.
Scattered wooded rises stay unbuilt among the blocks. They show up as calm blank shapes surrounded by tightly drawn streets.
Rivers, channels and small reservoirs cross the flat land towards the estuary. They add curving lines against the straight edges of the industrial layout.

Koteā ko Tantou
For many people Tantou was the first stop in Shenzhen, the place where a job, a dorm room and a new life began. A map of those blocks keeps that chapter in view long after they have moved to another district or another city.
