Te mapa
To Kwa Wan sits on the eastern side of the Kowloon peninsula, facing Kowloon Bay. On a map it is a dense arrangement of short streets and closely packed blocks, many dating from the post-war decades. To the east, reclaimed land and new developments extend toward the water, including the long strip of the former Kai Tak airport runway.
One distinctive corner is the Thirteen Streets area near Ma Tau Kok, a group of parallel streets laid out in the twentieth century, each named with an auspicious word. The neighbourhood gained a new MTR station on the Tuen Ma line, opened in 2021.
A To Kwa Wan map poster shows the contrast between the tight, older grid and the open, newly shaped waterfront. It captures a neighbourhood in transition, where historic street patterns and modern reclamation meet on the same small patch of Kowloon.
A compact set of parallel streets near Ma Tau Kok, each named with a lucky character, forms one of the most regular grids in the district.
The former airport runway extends into Kowloon Bay nearby, a long, straight landform that dominates the eastern side of the map.
Short streets and closely packed buildings fill the core, creating a fine, intricate texture typical of older Kowloon neighbourhoods.
