Trairão Map Poster & Print

Trairão lies in western Pará, in the Tapajós basin, along the BR-163 highway that runs between Cuiabá and Santarém. From above, the town is defined by that road. Streets form a small grid on both sides of the highway, and dense forest and cleared land close in beyond the last blocks. Rivers and streams wind through the green around it.

Trairão is a young municipality, created in the early 1990s as settlement spread along the highway. Its history is bound up with the road, with transport and with the forest frontier. The area also sits near large protected areas of the Amazon, and conservation and land use are central issues here.

A Trairão map poster sets a thin human grid against the vast, irregular shapes of forest and river. The highway gives the composition a firm line. Everything else is organic and open. It is a striking image of how towns take shape along a road in the Amazon.

BR-163 highway

The highway runs straight through the town and is its main street. The grid is organised along both sides of it.

02

Compact town grid

A small set of rectangular blocks marks the urban area, clearly bounded against the surrounding land.

03

Forest and rivers

Streams and rainforest surround the town, so the edge of the map is filled with irregular natural lines and open space.
