Três Corações lies in the south of Minas Gerais, on the Rio Verde, in a landscape of rolling hills and pasture. The river crosses the town and shapes its layout. The older centre sits close to the water, and newer districts spread up the surrounding slopes. From above, the streets form irregular grids that bend to fit the terrain.
The town is known around the world as the birthplace of Pelé, who was born here in 1940, and it has monuments in his honour. It is also home to the Brazilian Army's school for sergeants, whose large grounds stand out on the map as a separate, orderly block among the residential streets.
Beyond the town, roads lead out across the farming and dairy country typical of southern Minas.
