Te mapa
Três Coroas lies in the Paranhana valley, in the hills of Rio Grande do Sul, northeast of Porto Alegre. The town was built by German immigrants and later grew with the shoe industry. It stretches along the Paranhana River, which is known locally for rafting, and forested slopes rise on either side.
The town is also home to Khadro Ling, a Tibetan Buddhist temple and retreat centre on a hilltop outside the urban area. It draws visitors from across Brazil, and its stupas and prayer wheels are an unexpected sight in the southern Brazilian countryside.
A Três Coroas map poster shows how the valley shapes everything. The streets form a long, narrow ribbon beside the river, bridges link the two banks, and roads climb into the hills in tight curves. The result is a slim, vertical composition in black and white, very different from a lowland grid.
The river runs the length of the town, fast and winding. Its line is the backbone of the map, with the streets arranged along both banks.
Hemmed in by hills, the town stretches along the valley floor. The result is a long, narrow built-up area rather than a compact centre.
Roads climb from the valley into the wooded slopes in sharp curves, including the approach to the temple. They draw loops at the map's edges.

Koteā ko Três Coroas
Três Coroas matters to people who grew up in the Paranhana valley, and to many who visited the temple or rafted the river. A map of its narrow streets is a quiet reminder of a place defined by hills and water.
