Trollhättan grew up where the Göta älv, the river draining Lake Vänern, falls steeply toward the sea at Gothenburg. The falls blocked navigation for centuries. The locks of the Trollhätte Canal were eventually built to lift boats around them, and hydroelectric power later made the town an industrial centre.
For much of the twentieth century Trollhättan was best known as the home of Saab cars. Today visitors come for the falls themselves. On certain summer days the water is released back into the old riverbed and the dry gorge fills again. The canal area and the power station buildings are among the city's main sights.
A Trollhättan map poster is dominated by water. The river runs through the middle of the frame. Beside it lie parallel lines of locks from different eras and the narrow gorge where the falls run. Streets climb the slopes on both sides and bridges cross at intervals, so the city clearly reads as a place shaped by its river.
The river narrows and drops through a rocky channel in the middle of the city. On a map this appears as a pinched, winding strip of water.
Lock systems built at different times run alongside the river. They draw a set of stepped, parallel lines that belong only to Trollhättan.
Power stations and former factory sites sit near the water. Their large footprints mark the energy that built the town.

Koteā ko Trollhättan
For anyone who worked at the car plant or grew up by the locks, Trollhättan's river is unforgettable. A map poster turns that water, those bridges and the steep streets into a clean graphic that suits a Scandinavian interior.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to name a street, a family or a year. The map comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the canal engineering especially well.
