Te mapa
Umán lies just southwest of Mérida and has become part of the capital's wider metropolitan area. The Yucatán Peninsula is a low limestone shelf with no surface rivers to speak of, and the town's layout reflects that: a regular grid of blocks around a central plaza and church, stretching outward across ground that barely changes in height from one edge to the other.
Much of the peninsula's water runs underground, surfacing in cenotes, and the land around Umán has long been shaped by agriculture, including the henequen plantations whose hacienda buildings still stand in the countryside. Today the town is also defined by roads, with the highway toward Campeche and routes connecting to Mérida's ring road cutting across the older pattern.
The result on paper is a clear contrast between order and movement. An Umán map poster shows the square colonial grid at the centre, the diagonal pull of the highways, and the newer housing districts and industrial areas that have grown between the town and the edge of Mérida.
The historic centre follows the familiar Yucatecan pattern of evenly spaced blocks around a main square, which prints as a neat, almost geometric core.
Major roads toward Campeche and Mérida slice through or skirt the town, adding strong directional lines that break the symmetry of the older streets.
With no rivers or hills to follow, the street network expands freely in every direction, giving the map a wide, even texture that reads well in black and white.

Koteā ko Umán
For families from Umán or people who have settled in Mérida's growing suburbs, the map captures a place that has changed quickly while keeping its central square. It works well in a kitchen, office or entryway where clean lines suit the room.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be set to anything you like, from a family name to the year you moved in. Pick Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to match the wall and frame you have in mind.
