Te mapa
Umuahia is the capital of Abia State in southeastern Nigeria, and it grew around the railway linking Port Harcourt to Enugu. The line still runs through the town, and on the map it forms a long straight axis with the older centre on either side and newer residential areas spreading outward along the main roads.
During the Nigerian Civil War, Umuahia served for a time as the capital of Biafra, and the National War Museum here records that period. The surrounding region is agricultural, and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture lies nearby at Umudike.
An Umuahia map poster shows a town with a clear centre and softly spreading edges. The railway and arterial roads provide structure, while lanes and compounds fill the land between them, thinning out into the green countryside of Abia State.
The Port Harcourt–Enugu railway crosses Umuahia as a single strong line, the historical reason for the town's growth and a clear axis in the composition.
Around the railway and main market roads, the older centre has a denser pattern of streets, forming the visual heart of the map.
Beyond the centre, residential streets and compounds branch out along the main roads, becoming gradually looser as they meet the surrounding farmland.
