Te mapa
Ikot Ekpene is an inland town in Akwa Ibom State, in south-eastern Nigeria. On the map it forms a compact centre where several main roads meet, then spreads outward along those routes into the surrounding countryside. There is no coastline or large river shaping the layout here, so the pattern of roads and neighbourhoods carries the whole composition.
The town is widely known as the Raffia City. Craftspeople here have long worked raffia palm fibre into baskets, furniture, bags and other goods, and the town is also associated with carved masks and the cultural traditions of the Annang people. That craft reputation is a large part of how the place is known across Nigeria.
An Ikot Ekpene map poster shows a town that grew outward from its junctions. Denser blocks near the centre give way to longer, looser streets toward the edges, where settlement blends with farmland and vegetation. In fine black lines, this radiating form makes an honest and recognisable portrait of the town.
Main routes lead out of the centre in several directions, connecting the town to the rest of Akwa Ibom. On the map they read as strong lines holding the layout together.
Around the main junctions the streets are short and closely packed, forming the darkest area of the poster where markets and older neighbourhoods sit.
Toward the outskirts, streets become sparser and more irregular as the town merges with the surrounding farmland and palm country.
