Te mapa
Uruará lies in the state of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon, along the Trans-Amazonian Highway, BR-230. Its pattern on a map is very distinctive: a long east–west main road with straight side roads leaving it at regular intervals. Farms and clearings line those side roads, cutting into the surrounding forest in a shape often described as a fishbone.
The town grew in the 1970s as part of the colonisation projects that followed the building of the highway. Settlers came from across Brazil to farm along the new road, and the local economy has been based on agriculture ever since, including cocoa. The urban centre is compact, but its influence reaches far along the road network.
A Uruará map poster captures a landscape that only makes sense from above. The main highway, the rhythm of the side roads and the town cluster where they meet give a very clear, graphic image. In black and white, the pattern is both striking and easy to understand.
BR-230 runs through Uruará and forms the main axis of the map. The town and its surrounding settlements are organised around this road.
Straight side roads leave the highway at regular intervals, making a repeating pattern of clearings and farms that is typical of the region.
The urban area is a small, dense grid at the highway, a clear focal point in a landscape of roads and open land.

Koteā ko Uruará
Many families in Uruará arrived from other parts of Brazil, and the town's story is tied to the road that brought them. A map of it makes a meaningful gift for settlers, their children and anyone who knows the region.
