Te mapa
Uvalde is the seat of Uvalde County in southwest Texas, where the Hill Country meets the brush country further south. On a map the town has a regular grid of streets around a central plaza, with US 90 running east to west and US 83 running north to south through the middle. The Leona River runs along the eastern side, and ranch land stretches out beyond the edges.
The town calls itself the City of Trees, and the shaded streets and river bottoms give it a greener look than much of the surrounding country. Uvalde was the home of John Nance Garner, US vice president in the 1930s, and his former home is now a museum. The town is also home to Southwest Texas Junior College.
A Uvalde map poster highlights the town's clear structure: the grid, the plaza at its heart and the two highways crossing it. The river adds a soft line to the east. The result is a calm, orderly map that feels characteristic of the small county seats of Texas.
The downtown plaza sits at the heart of the grid, and the town's main streets are arranged around it.
US 90 and US 83 cross in the middle of town, forming a clear cross that anchors the whole map.
The Leona River runs along the eastern side of town, its wooded banks drawing a winding line beside the regular blocks.
