Te mapa
Verrettes lies in Haiti's Artibonite department, in the valley of the Artibonite River, the country's longest river. The town sits on low ground near the river, with higher ground nearby. From above, the map shows a modest cluster of streets surrounded by irrigated fields and the curving line of the water.
The Artibonite valley is Haiti's main rice-growing region, and much of the land around Verrettes is fields watered by the river and its canals. The town serves the surrounding rural areas, where farming follows the seasons of the valley.
A Verrettes map poster keeps the focus on how town, river and land relate. The streets form a small, legible pattern, the river winds past in soft curves, and field boundaries and channels fill the space around them. In black and white, the composition feels grounded and calm, a portrait of a farming town in its valley.
Haiti's longest river flows near the town. It draws a wide, curving line across the map and shapes both the landscape and life in the valley.
Rice fields and irrigation channels surround the town. They form a finely divided pattern of plots and water lines around the built area.
The streets of Verrettes form a compact, simple pattern at the centre of the poster, clearly set apart from the farmland around them.
