Te mapa
Villavicencio sits where the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes ends and the vast flat plains of the Llanos begin, and the map captures that change clearly. On the western side, the last steep foothills leave open, irregular shapes. To the east, the city spreads onto level ground in a broad, fairly regular grid that seems to continue toward the horizon.
Known as the gateway to the Llanos, the city is the capital of the Meta department and lies about 90 kilometres by road from Bogotá, on a route that descends through mountains and tunnels. Rivers coming down from the Andes, including the Guatiquía, cross the area. Their wide beds and wooded banks appear as green breaks between neighbourhoods.
The city is the centre of llanero culture, with its joropo music, cattle ranching and horsemanship. A Villavicencio map poster shows the city where mountain meets plain. The foothills rise on one side, and on the other the orderly streets reach out toward the open grasslands.
The first ridges of the Andes mark the western edge of the map. Their slopes are largely unbuilt and form a clear boundary for the city.
To the east, the streets fall into a broad, regular grid on the flat land. The pattern keeps expanding as the city grows toward the Llanos.
Rivers coming down from the mountains cross the city. Their wide beds and banks leave green gaps that divide the grid into distinct districts.
