Te mapa
Voi lies in Taita Taveta County in southern Kenya, where the Nairobi–Mombasa highway and the railway cross the open plains between the coast and the interior. On a map the town is compact and linear, its streets gathered around the transport corridor, with the Voi River tracing a thin line nearby and large empty spaces opening in every direction.
The town owes its existence to the Uganda Railway, built at the turn of the twentieth century, and it still sits on the modern Standard Gauge Railway line. It is also the main gateway to Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest protected areas in Kenya, while the Taita Hills rise to the west.
A Voi map poster captures that sense of a small settlement set against great distance. Roads leave town as long, unbroken strokes, the rail lines run parallel across the paper, and the density of the centre gives way quickly to sparse tracks. It is a map about movement and arrival as much as about place.
The Nairobi–Mombasa road and the railway lines pass side by side, giving the map its strongest lines and explaining why the town grew exactly here.
Beyond the built-up area, roads thin into tracks heading toward the park gate, and the drawing turns almost blank, a fair picture of open savannah on a street map.
A modest river passes close to the town, a meandering line that softens the straight geometry of road and rail on the poster.

Koteā ko Voi
Voi is the place many travellers remember as the start of a safari or a stop on the long journey to the coast. For residents, it is home at the junction of routes. Either way, the poster keeps that junction in view.
