Te mapa
West Babylon is a hamlet in the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island. Its map is the classic postwar suburb: a dense mesh of residential streets, cul-de-sacs and short blocks, crossed by a few busy through-roads. Major east–west routes, including Sunrise Highway and the Southern State Parkway, cut long firm lines across the community.
The southern edge is where the map gets more interesting. Here the land meets the waters of the Great South Bay through a series of creeks and dredged canals. Houses line these narrow channels, often with a boat at the end of the garden, and on a map the pattern looks like a comb of streets and water pressed together.
A West Babylon map poster shows both sides of the place: the regular inland suburb and the finer, more intricate waterfront. It records the everyday geography of commutes, schools, parks and shopping streets, and ends in the bay. In black and white the canals stand out especially well, and give the drawing a distinctive edge.
Along the south, dredged canals reach inland between rows of houses, forming a tight comb-like pattern of streets and water.
Long east–west routes such as Sunrise Highway and the Southern State Parkway cut across the suburban mesh as clean continuous lines.
Most of the hamlet is a close pattern of residential blocks and cul-de-sacs, which gives the poster a fine, even texture.
