Te mapa
Wong Chuk Hang lies on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, east of Aberdeen. It occupies a narrow valley that opens toward the Aberdeen Channel, with steep, wooded hills on both sides. For decades it was an industrial district, and its large rectangular blocks still dominate the valley floor, though many buildings have been converted to offices, studios and galleries.
The MTR South Island Line runs through the area on an elevated track, and a channelled stream cuts through the valley toward the water. From above, the dense blocks, highways and rail lines are squeezed between hillsides that rise sharply in every direction.
A Wong Chuk Hang map poster shows Hong Kong in miniature: engineering pressed hard against terrain. Ocean Park sits on the headland to the south-east, and the waters of the southern coast frame the scene. The result is an intricate, layered composition in a small area.
Large former industrial buildings fill the flat ground in regular rectangles, a strong contrast with the steep, wooded slopes around them.
The elevated MTR line crosses the district in a clean curve, linking it to Admiralty and the rest of the south side.
Ocean Park occupies the neighbouring headland, and the Aberdeen Channel and southern waters give the map its coastal edge.
