Te mapa
Xangri-lá is a beach town on the northern coast of Rio Grande do Sul. It is one of a string of resorts along a long, almost perfectly straight stretch of Atlantic sand. On a map, the ocean edge is a single clean line, and everything else is arranged against it: the blocks and avenues, and the dunes and lagoons behind them.
The town is named after Shangri-La, the imaginary valley in James Hilton's novel Lost Horizon. It grew mainly as a summer destination for families from Porto Alegre, and the street plan reflects that purpose. Regular grids run back from the beach, and large gated developments form self-contained shapes with curving lanes, some with small lakes of their own.
Inland, the coastal plain is dotted with lagoons whose soft outlines balance the hard shoreline on the other side. A Xangri-lá map poster brings these elements together in a simple composition of sea, grid and still water. The white expanse of the Atlantic takes up a generous part of the frame.
The coastline runs almost without a bend for many kilometers. It gives the poster one strong edge that the whole street pattern lines up against.
Streets run parallel and at right angles to the sand in regular blocks. This planned resort layout reads crisply in black lines at every print size.
Large residential developments appear as distinct enclosed shapes with curving internal lanes, and some have their own lakes. They contrast clearly with the straight grid of the town around them.

For families who spend every summer here, or who remember one particular season by the sea, this map holds the shape of that holiday better than a photograph. The long coastline suits a portrait frame and fits naturally in a beach house or a city apartment.
