Xiangxiang Map Poster & Print
Xiangxiang is a county-level city administered by Xiangtan in central Hunan, set among low hills, rice fields and reservoirs. From above, the urban area forms a compact centre along a winding river. Newer districts of wide roads and apartment blocks are spreading outward from it. Beyond the town, villages and fields fill the gentle valleys between wooded ridges.
The area has long been farming country in the heart of Hunan's rice-growing region, and road and rail connect it easily to Xiangtan and Changsha. Xiangxiang is also home to the Dongshan school, where a young Mao Zedong studied in 1910. It is a small but often-mentioned episode in the history of the town.
