Te mapa
Loudi lies in the middle of Hunan province, in hilly country between the Xiang River basin and the uplands to the west. On a map the urban area spreads along the Lianshui River, which winds through the city in loose curves, with older streets close to the water and newer districts laid out in broader blocks on either side.
Loudi became a prefecture-level city only at the end of the twentieth century, and much of what appears on the map is recent: wide boulevards, large residential compounds, and rail lines and expressways passing along the edges. Hills and reservoirs press in around the built area, so the street network often stops abruptly against green slopes rather than fading into flat farmland.
The wider Loudi area is known for coal and steel, particularly around Lianyuan, and for its connection with Zeng Guofan, the nineteenth-century statesman whose family home lies in Shuangfeng county. A Loudi map poster focuses on the city itself, where river, hills and planned streets make a quiet, balanced composition.
The river threads through the city in a series of gentle bends, crossed by several bridges, and gives the map its main flowing line against the straighter streets.
Wooded hills and ridges surround the urban core, so blocks of streets end in irregular outlines where the terrain rises, a pattern typical of central Hunan.
Newer parts of the city are laid out in larger rectangles with wide roads, in clear contrast to the tighter, older street pattern near the river.
