Te mapa
Shaoshan is a small county-level city in central Hunan, set among forested hills and farmed valleys. On a map there is no large urban grid. The town is a modest cluster of streets, and roads wind out through narrow valleys to villages, ponds and terraced fields. The terrain decides almost everything about the layout.
Shaoshan is the birthplace of Mao Zedong, and his family home in the village of Shaoshanchong has become one of the most visited sites in the region. Memorial halls, parks and visitor roads have grown around it, and those routes are among the most clearly defined lines on the map.
A Shaoshan map poster shows a landscape that is much smaller and quieter than its historical weight might suggest. The lines are soft and organic: roads following valley floors, scattered ponds, patches of settlement between hills. In black and white this gives a calm and airy composition, far removed from the dense street maps of large Chinese cities.
Roads follow the valley floors between wooded hills, creating long, curving routes instead of any regular pattern of blocks.
Small ponds and farmed plots dot the lowland areas, and they appear as scattered shapes between the thin lines of the roads.
The village where Mao Zedong was born lies in a valley south of the town centre, linked by roads to memorial sites and parks.

Koteā ko Shaoshan
Shaoshan interests history readers, travellers who have visited Hunan, and anyone drawn to the rural landscapes of southern China. As a poster, its sparse composition feels restful and suits minimalist interiors.
