Te mapa
Yangp'yŏng lies east of Seoul, where the Han River system winds between steep, wooded hills. On a map, the water leads. The Namhan River curves broadly past the town, and not far downstream it joins the Bukhan River at Dumulmeori, where the two streams meet in a wide, still reach. Villages and roads follow the flat land along the banks, because the hills leave little room elsewhere.
The area has long been a weekend escape for people from the capital. It is known for riverside walks, cycling paths along old rail corridors and the mountain temple of Yongmunsa, famous for a very old ginkgo tree. A railway line runs along the river valley, linking the town with Seoul and with towns farther east.
A Yangp'yŏng map poster captures a place shaped almost entirely by terrain. The town centre is a small, fairly dense cluster by the station and the river. From there, narrow roads branch into side valleys and thin out into farm tracks and scattered houses. In between, broad blank areas of forest and hillside give the design plenty of calm space.
The wide river bends through the county in long loops. On the map it is the strongest line, and it guides roads, rail and settlements along its banks.
Downstream at Dumulmeori, the Namhan and Bukhan rivers join. The broad water surface they form is one of the best-known landscapes near Seoul.
Away from the river, thin roads climb into narrow side valleys between forested ridges. They create a branching pattern that looks almost like veins on a leaf.
