Te mapa
Zacapa sits in the eastern lowlands of Guatemala, in one of the driest valleys in Central America. From above, the town is a tight grid of blocks around a central plaza. A river runs along its edge, and roads leave the grid toward the surrounding hills. Streets stay close together at the centre and loosen into scattered lots as the valley opens out.
The town gives its name to the department around it and, more widely known, to Ron Zacapa, a rum first produced to mark the town's centenary. The valley's heat and thin rainfall shape the land around it: irrigated fields near the water, then dry scrub and slopes that change little from season to season.
A Zacapa map poster keeps the essentials: the regular blocks of the old centre, the curve of the river, and the main roads that link the town to the rest of eastern Guatemala. In black and white, the contrast between the dense grid and the open valley floor becomes the main subject, drawn with a clean, even line.
The historic core follows the colonial pattern of square blocks around a plaza, giving the centre of the map an even, almost woven texture of short streets meeting at right angles.
A river runs along the side of the town, and its winding line sets off the straight streets of the grid. It marks where built-up blocks give way to fields and open ground.
Zacapa lies on a wide valley floor between ranges of hills. On a wider map the town looks like a small, dense cluster in open land, with roads heading out toward the mountains.

Koteā ko Zacapa
For people from eastern Guatemala, the Zacapa grid is a clear picture of home: the plaza, the familiar streets, the river at the edge of town. Rum enthusiasts also like the connection to a name they already know from the label.
You can add your own title and subtitle, and change the coordinates line to mark a family house or a special date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to match the room it is going into.
