Ismailia Canal
The freshwater canal from the Nile to Ismailia runs through the town. It is the lifeline that turns this strip of land green and gives the map its main axis.

The map
Al Qaşşāşīn lies on the eastern side of the Nile Delta, on the route between Cairo and Ismailia. From above, it is a linear town. A freshwater canal, a railway line and a main road run side by side through it, and a narrow band of irrigated fields follows them. Beyond that, the land quickly turns into the dry expanse of the eastern desert.
The canal corridor has been a strategic route for a long time. During the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882, fighting took place near Kassassin shortly before the decisive battle at Tel el-Kebir. Today the town is an agricultural and residential centre, with newer desert reclamation projects spreading out beside the old corridor.
An Al Qaşşāşīn map poster is unusual and graphic. The parallel lines of water, rail and road cross the sheet, with dense street clusters along them and large empty areas on either side. It clearly shows how settlement in Egypt depends on water, and it makes a spare, striking print.
The freshwater canal from the Nile to Ismailia runs through the town. It is the lifeline that turns this strip of land green and gives the map its main axis.
The Cairo–Ismailia railway runs alongside the canal. Its straight line is echoed by the main road, forming a tight bundle of parallel routes.
On either side of the corridor, irrigated fields give way to open sand. On the poster this edge appears as a sharp change from dense detail to open space.

Why Al Qaşşāşīn
Families from Sharqia and Ismailia, and people who have worked or served in the canal zone, will recognise this landscape of parallel lines. A map of Al Qaşşāşīn captures that particular place between the delta and the desert.
You can write your own title and subtitle, in English or a transliteration you prefer, add the coordinates, and pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand reflects the desert surroundings especially well.
